Peter W. Roberts

Peter has over 30 years of executive leadership experience in health insurance and healthcare delivery.

At Children’s Health System of Texas (2011-2017), Peter conceived, organized and led the company’s development of a pediatric value-based business model, including an HMO financing vehicle, a provider-led accountable care organization, clinically integrated networks of private physicians, adult health system affiliations, a data and analytics core, and a comprehensive population health management support system.

Peter led the conceptualization and development of The Health and Wellness Alliance for Children, a collective impact social change initiative comprised of more than 75 nonprofit, government and business organizations dedicated to improving the health of children in Dallas.  He pioneered the development of a family well-being business model that incorporates the capabilities of the healthcare system, community agencies and financing vehicles in service of children and families.

From 2009-2011, Peter served as President of Roberts Health Solutions, bringing professional consulting services to a variety of healthcare clients.  His strategic outlook and enthusiastic approach to building partnerships and teams across all stakeholder groups, coupled with a focus on the measurement of outcomes, served a number of organizations seeking to enhance their performance during a significant period of change within healthcare financing and delivery.

Prior positions include Group Vice President, Provider Relations and Health Management at Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Iowa and South Dakota, where he conceived and organized a cross-functional process improvement effort to save over $300M in recurring medical benefit cost savings over a 5-year period.    While doing so, Wellmark maintained the broadest contracted provider networks and the highest provider satisfaction levels.  At the University of Michigan Medical Center (1982-1997), he served as President of the University of Michigan’s HMO – M-CARE – expanding to state-wide coverage and achieving UAW ratification.

Prior to heading up M-CARE, Peter led programmatic, facility and operational planning for a patient and family hotel on the medical center campus and a comprehensive outpatient medical rehabilitation program for the University of Michigan Medical Center.   He also served as Regional Administrator for the American Red Cross in Denver, CO.

In 2015, Peter was named by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the health system population health administrators to know.  Peter holds a Master of Heatlhcare Administration from the University of Colorado and a Master of Health Education from Worchester State College.  His bachelor’s degree is from the University of California, Berkeley.
